    Horse 2 Heart

Born the Year of the Horse by Lisa Rodriguez

Starting at the age of nine I swapped my surfboard for a horse and started riding on the beach and in the Pacific Ocean in Orange County. I did everything on horseback because I had a disease that prevented me from walking for a couple of years. I swam them in the ocean, rode fence on Irvine ranch, played all manner of mounted games and grew up sitting on a horse, usually bareback.

“I was taking lesson’s from a women named ” Louise Yount.” She is a nice lady. My mom and her where talking about me and how I needed ot me moved up to a greater level of riding. While they where talking I was leaning up against a stall. When all of a sudden a baby filly comes over and blows in my ear. I turn around and laugh! She was cute. I asked Lou if I could go in and pet her. She said it would be allright. So I did.

She was very friendly. She walked right over to me and put her head on my shoulder. I patted her head and she looked at me as if to say ” Don’t stop now.” lol! Every time I had lessons I would go in and pet her while my mom and Lou talked. But on the 6th day my mom was running late. So Lou asked if I would like ot feed her. I said sure. Of course. Lou told me as I patted her that she was for sale. My body filled with surprise and happiness! I asked how much.

She said $750. I had just got done showing a calf at the county fair. I got $800 for my calf. My b ody flooded with joy when I rememberd and finally knew I had enouph money to buy her! I asked my mom tight away! She said she would have to talk to dad. My next lesson my dad came and looked at her. He and mom both said yes! I was so excited! After that mom would pick me up after school every day and drive me to lous to clean her stall, brush her, feed her, amd turn her out in the arena. Lou came down and I asked what her breed was. She said she was a thoroughbred! I loved the breed! They are great for running and get very tall.

As she got older I did more with her. I picked up her hooves put blankets on her and everything! Then we moved her to my firends down the raod and she stayed there for awhile and I would get off the bus there and spend time with her. Then we put up a building and she is now down here at my house and I spend time with her a lot. I plan to break her myself! She takes a bit without any problem! She likes them! She is now 1 and I got her when she was 4 m onths old. She is allredy 14.4 hands high! She is going ot be huge! I have a special bond with her like no other horse and I plan to when I show and irde her too! She will always be my lifelong friend!
