Horseback Riding During Long Valley Cattle Drive

Rss Feed March 3rd, 2009

Horseback riding in the annual Long Valley Cattle Drive is an amazing equestrian vacation for horse lovers. In this American Western cattle drive, participants move hundreds of cattle from the winter range on the north rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona-Utah region to the summer pastures on the Bryce Canyon Plateau each June. The drive from summer pastures to the winter range takes place in late October or early November.

Your horseback riding cattle drive will be a little slow. Therefore, you will not necessarily require advanced equestrian skills. One thing is for sure; this experience can give recreational as well as professional riders an authentic taste of the Old West. You are likely to spend most of the time in the saddle. Another amazing fact about this cattle drive is that for generations, participants have been camping out on their way at nights, thus you will also get the opportunity to experience the wilderness. You will also help cowboys in moving the herd across the varied terrain of sand dunes, canyons, juniper foothills and many more.

Ranch-based horses with Western tack are available for the drive. You will not find any difficulty as experienced riders and friendly hosts will always come to help you at any point. You can expect to ride maximum six to seven hours every day during the drive, which means you will need to have some previous expereince. Yes, if you are really looking for a real working cattle drive, and at the same time want to enjoy an amazing horseback riding, then Long Valley Cattle Drive is the one for you!
