    “The Happy Sign”

    Sometimes life leads us down paths that we don’t recognize but somehow know we belong on. It could be said that we pick them, but often they pick us. Spunky, a reining horse, was put on a new path, from high power athlete to changing a special Down’s Syndrome boy’s life in record time and without missing a step.

    Congressional Legislation Needs Your Attention

    Rss Feed September 16th, 2011

    Wild Horses are part of this action. Your zip code is all they ask for with this link to the Compassion Index.

    On June 9, 2011, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) reintroduced S. 1176, the “American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011″ that would end the slaughter of American horses here and – most urgently – would stop these horses from being exported for slaughter. The sponsors, who have long championed the cause, have bipartisan support from 14 colleagues who are co-sponsoring the bill. This bill is identical to the version that passed out of the Senate Commerce Committee in 2009.

    The wild Victory | A Story Of A Mustang Horse

    Rss Feed March 28th, 2011

    By: Lisa Clement Rodriguez

    For five years, the neighbor’s mare ‘Shawnee Dancer’ watched me at our adjoining fence. A proud Mustang of glowing white, she was the queen of the ragged group of five odd horses that lounged, swishing and stomping flies in the summer sun, and huddled together in winter storms. Dark buckskin marking covered the right half of her head and was the only color on her compact body. It looked as if mud had dried on her coat. The other side of her white head held a pale blue eye rimmed with a quarter inch of black, like eyeliner had been perfectly applied.

    Details of the BLM’s Proposed Strategy for Future Management of America’s Wild Horses and Burros.

    Released today by the

    U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management  The proposed new strategy calls specifically for:

     stepping up fertility control, including CTR gathers that are principally aimed at applying PZP fertility-control vaccine to mares (over the current level of about 850 in Fiscal Year 2011), and adjusting herd sex ratios in favor of males to reduce the number of on-the-range pregnancies;

     boosting public adoption demand by offering more trained horses, aiming for more than 4,000 adoptions a year (over the current level of approximately 3,000);

    Foundation Demands BLM Call Off Massive Winter Mustang Roundup

    Rss Feed January 10th, 2011

    For Immediate Release

    Foundation Demands BLM Call Off Massive Winter Mustang Roundup

    Plan to roundup over 2,000 American Mustangs on Delaware- sized range, where thousands of livestock graze, contested

    Reno, NV (January 10, 2011)—The Cloud Foundation opposes spending millions of taxpayer dollars to wipe out America’s wild horses. Currently the BLM plans to roundup and remove up to 2,228 alleged “excess” wild horses from the 1.3 million acre Antelope Complex in northeastern Nevada. The Foundation asks that all roundups halt until the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) completes their study and new Appropriate Management Levels (AMLs) are set to prevent the American wild horses and burros from being managed to extinction. This dead of winter roundup is scheduled to begin January 20, 2011 and last for 40 days.

    Interior Department Criticized for Biased, Whitewash Report on Treatment of Wild Horses During Government Roundups

    “This biased report is an attempt to deflect increased scrutiny on and public opposition to the BLM’s inhumane wild horse roundups,” said Suzanne Roy, AWHPC Campaign Director. “The report’s authors do not have any wild horse handling experience and its conclusions are not credible and lack scientific validity.”

    Madeleine Pickens Buys US Ranch for Wild Mustang Horse Sanctuary

    Rss Feed October 18th, 2010

    Wild Mustang Horse Sanctuary Purchased for Wild Mustang Horse Sanctuary

    I love an ironic twist. In broadcasting school the instructor advised us to look for the irony in a story. I find this very ironic.

    The BLM removes thousands of Wild Horses from BLM land because it will not support the horses that have lived there for over a hundred years. This costs the US tax payer hundreds of millions. Wealthy individual Madeleine Pickens buys land to return the horses back into the wild. The land includes BLM grazing rights for 540,000 acres of BLM land.
