    Horse makes Staff Sergeant in Marines

    Rss Feed October 5th, 2011

    The Marines had a female hero in the form of a little Mare. She was purchased off a Korean Race track for what amounts to spare change. The little Sorrel ‘Reckless’ earneda rank and honors for heroism in the line of battle. This little known horse, like so many war horses, lived and soldiered for freedom. She was promoted to Staff Sergeant by the Commandant of the US Marine Corps, and is listed alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa and John Wayne as one of our all-time heroes. A plaque in her honor remains at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base in San Diego county of California. Here is her amazing story;

    Racehorse ownership dreams of winning the Breedger’s Cup or the Kentucky Derby

    After all, there was no reason to think that I could actually get a horse, at least not at that point. For most of my life, in fact, horses weren’t a big deal to me. Unlike a lot of children, I did not grow up a horse fanatic. I never read the books of famous authors like Walter Farley or Marguerite Henry, wishing I were the one in the middle of the action. I never drew horse pictures, never begged my parents for riding lessons and never spent my days dreaming of the moment I’d finally have one to call my very own.

    The Magic Cookie | Miraculous Horse Stories

    By: Ashley Bleas

    My name is Ashley and I’m fifteen. When I was six, I suffered a near drowning. One afternoon, I was brought along with my neighbors to go fishing after my mom’s friend had died. While my neighbors were putting a worm on my hook, I had seizure and slipped into the water. When they found me I was unconscious. At the hospital my parents were told that I most likely wasn’t going to survive. I was in a coma and the doctors were unsure about massive brain damage.

    The wild Victory | A Story Of A Mustang Horse

    Rss Feed March 28th, 2011

    By: Lisa Clement Rodriguez

    For five years, the neighbor’s mare ‘Shawnee Dancer’ watched me at our adjoining fence. A proud Mustang of glowing white, she was the queen of the ragged group of five odd horses that lounged, swishing and stomping flies in the summer sun, and huddled together in winter storms. Dark buckskin marking covered the right half of her head and was the only color on her compact body. It looked as if mud had dried on her coat. The other side of her white head held a pale blue eye rimmed with a quarter inch of black, like eyeliner had been perfectly applied.

    Bert- My Miracle | A Story Of A Paint Pony

    Rss Feed March 24th, 2011

    I think that nearly every child goes through a stage of wanting a pony; some never grow out of it. I was one of those who never outgrew it. Since I was little, I loved horses and wanted one of my own. My best friend who rode encouraged that love. At last, at age 9, my parents let me take riding lessons. I was immediately hooked. Around Christmas 1998, my parents were debating over buying me an adorable little Paint pony named Bert. I, of course, was all for it, praying night and day for him. At last, on December 29, 1998, we bought him. Bert was any horse-crazy girl’s dream. He was small, about 13 hands, and had a sorrel coat with white patches on his neck and belly. A white blaze ran down the center of his face and his mane, tail, and forelock were tan. He had the cutest brown eyes I had ever seen. I was crazy about him.

    Hard lessons can lead to success. Everyone experiences heartbreak in some form or another, whether it is the loss of a friend or family member or a beloved pet. When I was sixteen years old I experienced heartbreak in a big way. The death of my roping horse Snuffy was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced; yet it had a meaningful impact on my life.

    Luckiest Of All- My Horse | A Colic Horse Story

    By Gloria ColterMy 17-year-old chestnut Morgan gelding, Good Knighthawk, walked obediently into my horse trailer.  As I tied him, I said, “Little Buddy, this will be the ride for your life.  I just hope we can win this one.”  Only minutes before, my vet had given him an injection for serious colic pain.  Hopefully this would keep him easy until I could get him to the University of Georgia Vet School 40 miles away.

    “Impossible Ashley Ann” | Impossible Horse Training Story

    “Dad!”  My younger brother William’s voice echoed through the house as he burst into the mudroom.  “I quit! I can’t work with that horse anymore.  She is just not trainable!”  Letting the door slam behind him, William’s frustration was evident as he flopped down to pull off his boots. No need to ask which horse he was talking about.  It was Ashley Ann.
