What is Natural andClassical Horsemanship ?

Lisa offers natural and classical horsemanship instruction that incorporates methods through which a rider communicates and bonds with the horse. The main purpose of natural horsemanship riding lessons is to create a relationship of trust, understanding and camaraderie between the horse and rider, so that the horse will respond to its human counterpart in a natural comfortable manner. The instruction begins with an assessment of the levels of horse and rider so a custom lesson plan can be created.

• Phase One: The first step primarily covers safety, basic skills, partnership and mental fitness.
• Phase Two: This phase takes the handler into the horse’s world, making him study the animal’s body language so as to understand the horse’s thoughts, reactions and needs
• Phase Three: The final phase in the natural horsemanship training program helps a rider learn how to use cues of ‘focus and energy’ to communicate and direct movements to the horse.

The Healing Horses of Canada

My second visit to the Kay El Bar Guest Ranch was another all out riding adventure. This equestrian vacation is a classic southwest getaway to Wickenburg Arizona. The ranch belonged to actor Val Kilmer’s family during his youth. I renamed the black Quarterhorse I rode on Tripod because he was such an ace to film from. Our visit was only one night but I could have stayed a week. This place is magical, but don’t take my word, watch the video and go check it out. Dude, where’s my horse??

New Riding Vacation-A Taste of Italy

 A.C Johnson from Larned, Kansas has
done what no one else has.

    He balanced an egg on on an ordinary
strand of very thin wire in Decmember of 1929.

    Not exactly a useful skill, but it
does illustrate balance very well.

    Balance is a key principle in all
things in life and is especially true when
riding a horse.

    Whether you’re riding to compete in the
horse world or you just want to have good
good riding skills, here are some guidelines.

    First, don’t look down.

    The rule is:  Look where you want to
be.  If you look at the ground, then that’s
where you’ll end up.

    Good motivation to ‘not’ look at the
ground, huh?

    Next, shoulders back.

    Why?

    Besides being good posture, it makes
you sit upright.

    If your shoulders are forward, your weight
is forward.

    If your weight is forward, your horse
will be heavy on his forehand. That makes it
harder for him to turn, spin, jump, etc.

    Next,..heels underneath you.

    Have the stirrup in the balls of your
feet.

    Next, elbows in.

    Don’t do the floppy chicken thing.

    Next, watch yourself when riding one
handed.

    Often, people ride one handed and their
opposite shoulder rocks back.

    You’ll start to lean back and put pressure
on your lower back – that’s not good.

    It’s like walking upright.

    You ride like you walk – up right and straight.
